LOS ANGELES, CA.- Nate D. Sanders on January 27th will be holding a special Presidents Day auction featuring important possessions belonging to President Abraham Lincoln. Highlights include Lincolns personal rocking chairs and a glass decanter from his Springfield, Illinois home, prior to his election as President.
The rocking chairs were used in Lincolns Springfield, Illinois residence until he was elected President in 1860. The Lincolns lived in the Greek revival house for 17 years. Lincoln gave the chairs to a Miss Olmstedt, a Springfield resident and an intimate friend of the Lincolns. The chairs are in good condition and display an elegance that befits their original owner. The authenticity of the chairs can be viewed on the Nate D. Sanders web page (see link provided below).
Also featured in the auction is Lincolns personally owned glass decanter featuring a Greek key motif and faceted stopper. This beautiful, cut glass decanter was purchased at Mary Todd Lincolns 1867 auction where she was forced to sell her jewelry, dresses and husbands possessions to pay off debts. The Chicago Tribune featured an ad on June 11, 1867 displaying the estate auction. News accounts described the sales as sordid.
The Presidents Day auction ends January 30, 2014 at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time. At 5 pm PST, extended bidding occurs allowing those who have placed a bid during the auction to participate. The auction continues until a bid has not been placed for 30 minutes. Bids can be entered online at
www.NateDSanders.com or by phone at 310-440-2982.
