BOGOTA (AFP).- Renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero escaped unhurt after a fire broke out at his holiday home in the northwest of the country, firefighters told AFP on Monday.
"We received a call at 11.45pm (0345 GMT). Three engines attended the fire. The painter and his friends are fine," fire official Elson Zuluaga from Rionegro in Antioquia province told AFP.
A caretaker for Botero's estate was slightly hurt by a falling beam, the fire official added.
Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from reaching Botero's studio on the estate but around 50 percent of the main residence was damaged by the fire, officials said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Botero, 81, was staying at the property with his wife Sofia Vari and several friends when the fire broke out.
The famous painter and sculptor divides his time between Monaco, New York and Italy but regularly holidays in Colombia.
