Lisa Stefanelli, A Season of Litanies: Sud Sam, 29 x 44 inches, metallic c-print on face mounted plexi, 2013, edition 2/5.

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Pentimenti Gallery announces Lisa Stefanelli's first exhibition in Philadelphia, The High Road. This exhibition features works which are like flowing linear shapes articulating a state of sustained exhilaration frozen in space, yet constantly moving. The underlying pursuit of Stefanelli's working practice is the possibility of being simultaneously involved and uninvolved in complexity.

Lisa Stefanelli attended the Rhode Island School of Design and received her degree in 1989. Recent solo exhibitions include Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles; the Albright-Knox Gallery; the West Collection, and more. Stefanelli was featured at Context Art Miami with Pentimenti Gallery. She was also included in the recent exhibition DECADE: Contemporary Collecting 2002-2012, at the Albright-Knox Gallery in 2012. Stefanelli has work in the collections of the United States Department of State, Washington DC; The West Collection, Oaks, PA; The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, MA; The Mondstudio Collection at the Kunstmuseum, Bern, Switzerland; The Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY and The Wynn Collection, Las Vegas, NV.

Paintings

Through icons, images, and artifacts Treviño explores his own identity as an under-represented minority in a post-Warhol society. The role of icons, the weight of history, and the evanescent influence of religious artifacts are all fair game for his contemplative subject matter.

René Treviño received his BFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in 2003 and his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2005. He has shown at the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford, CT; the Baltimore Museum of Art; Goliath Visual Space in Brooklyn, NY; White Box in New York, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. He was also included in the 2007 WPA/Corcoran OPTIONS Biennial in Washington DC and was recently awarded a 2009 Baltimore Creative Fund Individual Artist Grant and won the prestigious 2009 Trawick Prize. His work has been seen and reviewed in Art Papers; New American Painters; Baltimore Sun; Baltimore City Paper; Washington Blade; Washington Post as well as several online publications.
