GREENSBORO, NC.- Greenhill announced Lynn Sanders-Bustle, Ph.D. for the Director of Programs position, to start on May 1, 2014.

The Director of Programs is a position that will lead the programmatic operations of the organization and will be integral in creating synergies between Greenhill’s exceptional exhibition program, and ArtQuest, the award-winning children and families educational program. According to Laura Way, Executive Director, “Greenhill is thinking about the future, and looking toward 2016 when the Steven Tanger Center for Performing Arts opens—we need to be bold and make our mark as the anchor to the Cultural District as to not get lost in the enthusiasm of a new venue. Lynn, with her expertise in program development and assessment, will help us move forward into this very exciting time for both Greenhill and Greensboro. I could not be more pleased that Lynn will be joining our talented team.”

Selected by the National Art Education Association as the 2011 National Higher Education Art Educator of the Year, Lynn Sanders-Bustle holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art Education from East Carolina and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. She taught art in public schools working with students across the K-12 spectrum and most recently at the University of Southern Mississippi. From 2002 through 2012 she served as coordinator of the Art Education program at the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She is editor of the book, Image, Inquiry, and Transformative Practice: Engaging Learners in Creative and Critical Inquiry Through Visual Representation published in 2003 by Peter Lang. Sanders-Bustle has published in professional journals such as Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, The International Journal of Education and the Arts (2012), and Art Education. In addition she has presented at conferences such as the International Society for Arts and Education, the American Education Research Association, the National Art Education Association and the Literacy Research Association. Sanders-Bustle has received grants supporting the integration of technology into instruction, faculty development, and community-based art projects. Sanders-Bustle’s research focuses on community based service-learning, arts integration, and place-based pedagogies.

Lindsay Jones, Greenhill’s Board Chair explained, “Over the last nine-months, the board and a special task force have been looking at ways to make sure Greenhill remains a vibrant, sustainable organization for the future. One outcome from this study was the staff reorganization, which was difficult for everyone on both the staff and board. Now, we are moving ahead with someone who brings academic scholarship, research and program development and will be a great fit for Director of Programs. Lynn is creative, innovative, committed to our mission and vision for the future. She brings leadership, intellect, fun and energy to Greenhill and we are happy to have her on board.”
