WAKEFIELD.- The Hepworth Wakefield announced the appointment of Jane Marriott as our new Deputy Director. She will join Yorkshire’s award-winning gallery from mid-August, working closely with Director Simon Wallis to continue realising and developing The Hepworth Wakefield’s ambitious artistic, educational and commercial plans.

In her current roles as Director of Development and Director of the Royal Academy Trust at the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in London, Jane is a key member of the Executive Committee which provides strategic leadership and direction to the organisation. Since her promotion to Director six years ago, she has doubled the annual revenue contribution and raised over £37million for one of the most significant capital campaigns in the Royal Academy's history. Recently she directed the opening of the Keeper’s House and launched the RA’s first ever international strategy in Asia.

Jane has worked within the arts sector for over 18 years. She was Senior Arts Consultant at Kallaway Ltd, advising corporate clients on sponsorship and communication projects with the British Museum, National Theatre and the National Gallery. She played a critical role in the highly successful opening campaign for Tate Modern, spending three years at Tate and prior to that she spent many years in arts marketing, working for leading publishers John Wiley & Sons.

A History of Art graduate and qualified arts marketer, Jane is a trustee of The Reading Agency, a Fellow of the RSA and a regular speaker at international conferences. She recently completed the International Museum Leadership programme, widely regarded as the world's preeminent museum leadership course, run by the Getty Leadership Institute (GLI) at Claremont Graduate University, California, USA.

Jane Marriott commented on her appointment: “I am thrilled to be appointed as the new Deputy Director at The Hepworth Wakefield. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with one of Britain’s most significant new galleries. It is remarkable to see how much the team have achieved in just three years since the gallery opened. I have had a wonderful 11 years at the RA and now look forward to playing a pivotal role at The Hepworth Wakefield in helping to develop and grow this ambitious organisation.”

David Liddiment, Chair of The Hepworth Wakefield Trust said: “Jane is highly respected for her strategic work at the Royal Academy, with a wealth of experience in her roles working for, and with, some of Britain’s most established galleries and museums including: the RA, Tate, the National Gallery and the British Museum. Her appointment at The Hepworth Wakefield is indicative of the world-class offer we have in Wakefield. Her knowledge and experience will be a great asset as philanthropic and commercial revenue streams become increasingly vital in sustaining Britain’s galleries.”

Simon Wallis, Director of The Hepworth Wakefield added: “I am very much looking forward to working with Jane. Her strategic, fundraising, management and marketing expertise will contribute significantly to helping realise our ambitious plans to build on our superb first three years.”
