PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Pentimenti Gallery announces Simeen Farhats first solo exhibition, Logical Thinking; Illogical Thoughts at Pentimenti Gallery. The show will be on display from September 1 to September 28 with an artist reception on Friday, September 5, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Words borrowed from poetry in English, expressing logic and philosophy, and about life, Farhats sculptures are constructed with urethane cast-resin, which are intertwined into forms with undeniable rhythmic and directional force. Their bright colors, drawn from the iris of human eye and eye-catching shapes swirl and weave into one another, while the meaning of individual letters and words deepen the visually explosive sculptures with literary and cultural significance.
In her own words, Farhat explains, My objective in choosing those words is to show the essence of their message through abstraction; by using overlapping shapes and lines which create tension and movement and stir up emotions. Farhats work is aesthetically dynamic, it is language and it is expressive; conceptually and visually.
Additionally, in the Project Room, Pentimenti Gallery presents an installation Weeping Metaphors by Farhat that explores Lewis Carrolls Alices Adventures in Wonderland. Focusing on a single passage from the novel, Farhat materializes the text into objects by heating and contorting cast-resin lettering to create a self-contained and dynamic installation.
Simeen Farhat has exhibited nationally and internationally, including recent shows in the National Art Gallery, Islamabad, Pakistan; Sharjah Museum of Modern Art, UAE; Watermill Center, Hamptons, USA; American Center, New Delhi, India; VOLTA NY, New York, USA; La Fontaine Contemporary Art Center, Bahrain; Contemporary Istanbul, Turkey; and more. Farhat is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Oryx Foundation Artists in Residence, Switzerland; the Xerxes Artist Residency, Hampshire, UK; Prix Arte / Slick, Paris, France and the Clay Fellowship Residency, Rosendale, NY.
