SAN ANTONIO, TX.- Artpace announced that Sue Graze has been appointed Interim Executive Director. The Executive Committee headed by Board of Directors Chairperson J. Travis Capps, Jr. announced that Graze will assume her post on January 16, 2015.
"A seasoned professional and friend of Artpace since its inception, Sue brings exactly the right mix of skills and experience to Artpace," said Travis Capps, Chair of Artpace's Board of Directors. "With Sues understanding of leading a contemporary arts nonprofit, curating, and fundraising, we look forward to welcoming her as part of Artpace's leadership team over the next several months."
Graze brings over 30 years of experience to the Interim Executive Director position. In 2012 - 2013 Sue Graze was appointed a lecturer in the Art and Art History Department at the University of Texas at Austin to develop and teach a new artists Professional Practices curriculum for MFA candidates. From 1999 through 2011 Graze was Executive Director of Arthouse at the Jones Center, Austin, Texas. During her almost thirteen-year tenure leading the organization she established an active, internationally recognized contemporary art exhibition program and was responsible for a major award-winning facility renovation and expansion completed in the fall of 2010. From 1997-1999 she served as Assistant Director of Programs and Senior Curator at the Miami Art Museum. Prior to that she served as Director of the Center for Research in Contemporary Art at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 1981 Graze became the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art after working there as a Curatorial Assistant, Registrar and Associate Curator of Contemporary Art. She served in that position through 1990.
"Sue spoke at Artpace's first International Artist-in-Residence opening in 1995, and I am confident that she will continue Artpace's tradition of excellence in its twentieth anniversary year," acknowledges Capps.
