Andy Warhol (American, 1928–1987), Brillo Box (signed), circa 1979. Marker on Brillo box, 3 х 4.25 х 3 in. (7.62 x 10.8 x 7.62 cm.). Signed on front. Estimate: 5,000—7,000 USD.

NEW YORK, NY.- Live for bidding now on artnet Auctions , Small Works features a selection of intimately scaled objects, drawings, and paintings that make a bold statement despite their small size. Works by Ed Ruscha, Sam Francis, Richard Pettibone, Jeff Koons, Nam June Paik, and more are included in the auction.

Shown here is Andy Warhol’s Brillo Box. As one of his first sculptural works which was exhibited in 1964 at Stable Gallery in New York, Andy Warhol's iconic 'Brillo Boxes' infiltrated notions of "high art" with deadpan humor and pop culture imagery. Here, he appropriated a consumer-minded product (literally the actual cardboard box with Brillo pads still inside) and elevated them into the realm of fine art sculpture. Warhol's Brillo Box takes the mundane and transforms it entirely into something thought provoking, forcing viewers to reassess the aesthetics found art in commercialism as well as our own ideals of what is considered "art." This work is signed and encased in a Plexiglas box.
