Exhibition of recent paintings by Marisa Takal opens at SADE in Los Angeles
Do You Think About Power Everyday.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- SADE announces that “My Pet Lizard,” a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Marisa Takal, will open with a gallery reception at 204 S. Avenue 19, on Sunday, January 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. This show marks Takal’s debut in Los Angeles.

Takal's work evokes the debilitating aspects of the daily routine, the inner dialogue, highs and lows, "Do you know how amazing it feels to be alive?" vs. "Did you know I wish I was dead?" The aggravation you feel as you lay in bed deciding what to do with your day. You're sitting at the kitchen table deciding what to do first. What do you want to eat for breakfast? You go to walk out the door but only make it half way as you change your mind. What will you wear today? What are you thinking about? Why don't you just start your day? What do you talk about with your mom?? Do you think about power everyday? Through their titles, phrases and snippets of dialogue, Takal's culturally symbolic works evoke an abstract process that is imbued with visual and verbal humor and perversion.

Takal, 23, lives and works in Los Angeles and received her BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2013. Her work has been exhibited at Rock512Devil, Baltimore; Human Resources, Los Angeles; Secret Recipe, Los Angeles; Mission Comics and Art Gallery, San Francisco; sophiajacob, Baltimore; and Eleanor Harwood Gallery, San Francisco.

SADE is an exhibition space founded in 2014 to promote the work of emerging artists from Los Angeles and around the world.

"My Pet Lizard" will be on view at the gallery, located at 204 S. Avenue 19, Los Angeles through February 12, 2015. Gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
