LONDON.- London-based Carolyn Miner has been announced as the first Curator of The Line, a museum-quality art walk launching on 23 May 2015 in East London. The Line will bring modern and contemporary sculpture, exhibitions, site-specific commissions, video programmes, and billboard interventions to the paths along the many fascinating but under-appreciated waterways of East London. Miner takes up the post with immediate effect.
As Curator, Miner will oversee the display of The Line as well as exhibitions and public programmes, including lectures, screenings, and performances. Miner has previously worked in museums, at an auction house and helped set-up the research arm of the Creative Industries Federation. Most recently she was the Robert H. Smith Research Curator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the National Gallery, Washington D.C. and just completed editing the book The Eternal Baroque: Studies in Honour of Jennifer Montagu (Skira, 2015).
Miner has also worked as a Specialist at Sothebys London, as the Anissa B. Balson Research Fellow in the Department of Paintings and Sculpture at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and was a Research Associate in the Department of Sculpture at the J. Paul Getty Museum. Miner held various other research positions, including serving as an intern in the Department of Medieval Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. She has published articles and catalogue essays and lectured widely.
Miner is known for her creativity, wide-ranging interests, deep knowledge of art, and her commitment to engaging audiences. Co-Founders of The Line, Clive Dutton and Megan Piper commented, Carolyn Miner is acknowledged as a major force in the sculpture world. She will bring great intellect, a superb eye, and her extensive professional experience to The Line. We are impressed by her commitment to representing culturally diverse artists across different generations. Carolyn is bright, dynamic and full of enthusiasm for the project and its ambitions.
Megan Piper added, Im thrilled that Carolyn Miner has joined our team as The Lines Curator. Her knowledge, dynamism, passion for the project and confidence with new ideas makes her the perfect candidate for the role. This is an extremely important moment for The Line, and I know that Carolyn will make an invaluable contribution to our discussions as we plan for the future.
Carolyn Miner said, It is an immense privilege for me to accept this position. I am grateful to The Line and, specifically, to Clive Dutton and Megan Piper for their vision and their resolute determination to bring artworks and creative interactions to the neighbourhoods and unique landscape of the Lower Lea Valley, Royal Docks and the Thames/Greenwich Peninsula. I look forward to working with them toward the realisation of this ambitious project and beyond. I am also indebted to the remarkable curators with whom I worked with at the National Gallery of Art. I am very happy to bring this experience to The Line and to be a part of the first of many chapters in The Lines history.
