Art15: London's global art fair opens at Olympia

LONDON.- Art15, sponsored by Citi Private Bank, is London’s global art fair, welcoming 134 exhibitors from over 40 countries. The Fair shows contemporary and modern artwork from established and emerging galleries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and America. Highlights from this year’s Fair include:

Freedom Audit
Curated by Kathleen Soriano (former Director of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy) Freedom Audit is an exhibition concerned with freedom of expression for artists around the world. Artists are from 15 countries, including Panama, South Korea and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Global Private Museum Association
The Global Private Museum Association is a new, stand-alone network for leading museums from Asia, Latin America, Europe, the USA and the Middle East to collaborate. Over two dozen private museum owners from across the globe will join the Global Private Museum Summit, including Harald Falckenberg, Wang Wei, Budi Tek, Artur Walther and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.

Talks Programme
The Talks Programme this year includes leading artists and thinkers who will take part in discussions that cover cultural issues of pressing international importance. Talk highlights:

• Thursday, 21 May, 2pm At Some Point, Freedom of Expression Defines Art: Kathleen Soriano, curator of Freedom Audit, in conversation with Bonnie Greer OBE, and artists Helen Lundbye-Petersen and Mimsy

• Thursday, 21 May, 4pm What's Shared; What's Different?: Four women museum owners explore their experiences, including Wang Wei; Mera Rubell; Gina Diez Barroso and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo

• Friday 22 May, 3pm Beyond East and West: Budi Tek and Alexandre Colliex of Giacometti Foundation, discuss the new cross-cultural partnership between Shanghai's Yuz Museum and Paris' Giacometti Foundation

Projects
This year highlights include 18 specially commissioned, large-scale works by artists exhibited throughout the Fair such as:

• Viral planting EVOV by artist Michael Pinsky is a new work of thousands of flowers in the shape of a microscopic view of the deadly Ebola virus

• Europe Supported by America and Africa by Sokari Douglas Camp. The Nigerian-born British artist who was nominated for the 4th plinth in London’s Trafalgar square, is producing a monumental statue

• Jenna Burchell’s Homing is an interactive sound installation playing the sounds of South Africa and London
