DALLAS, TX.- The exquisite Still Life with Summer Fruits and Champagne, 1875, a newly-discovered work by Germany’s important still-life painter Emilie Preyer, set a world record for the artist at $81,250 in Heritage Auctions’ European Art Auction June 19 in Dallas.

The auction realized $707,188 on enthusiastic bidding for fresh-to-market masterpieces from private collections, such as Snow in Spring, 1877, a celebrated mid-career oil by George Henry Boughton — which the artist debuted to enthusiastic reviews at London’s 109th Royal Academy Exhibition of 1877 — sold for $30,000.

“Bidders focused on classic landscapes but we were pleased to see solid results for the Preyer still life, which is an important contribution to the artist’s body of work. “Discoveries of like this just don’t happen every season,” said Ariana Hartsock, Consignment Director for European Art at Heritage. We’re already looking forward to our next auction, December 9, and we think collectors will be delighted to acquire what we’ve found.”

Snowy Sunrise, Ivan Choultsé’s dramatic depiction of a crisp, snow-blanketed morning sold for $75,000 after spending it was passed down through three generations in one family. Street scenes by Edouard-Léon Cortès saw interest by multiple bidders, as Place de la Madeleine en hiver, 1951, sold for $45,000 and Place de la Bastille, hammered for $42,500.

Les Sablières près de Valmondois, 1873, by Charles François Daubigny, brought $42,500 and was sold on behalf of the estate of Ruth Carter Stevenson to benefit the Amon Carter Museum of Fort Worth, Texas and Harem Beauties at Market, by Fabio Fabbi, sold for $32,500.
