Fernando Botero above Giacometti and Renoir at Koller Auctions' sales this week
Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Baigneuse assise, de dos.(detail). Sold for CHF 288 500.

ZURICH.- At this week’s auctions, Koller was able to sell numerous highlights to international collectors. Good results were achieved for top lots in the areas of PostWar & Contemporary, Impressionist and Swiss Art. There were experienced private Art collectors present for approved artists as well as brand new pieces.

In the area of PostWar & Contemporary, which was launched as an independent department two years ago, Botero’s “Mother and Child” (estimated at CHF 340 000 / 400 000) was one of the sales highlights. This important piece found interest in the saleroom and amongst online bidders as well as with a collector in the USA, who purchased it for CHF 408 500 (lot 3461).

In the Impressionist and Modern Art sale, Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s oil paintings from the artists late works “Baigneuse assise, de dos” sold for CHF 288 500 and “Bouquet d’anémones” for CHF 204 500 to Swiss private collectors (lots 3219/3217).

Giacometti’s paintings were especially popular amongst the bidders of the Swiss Art auction – all five of the offered works found new owners. Giacometti’s large scale and therefore very sought-after view of the port of Marseilles from 1930 went to a Swiss collector for CHF 360 500 (lot 3054). Competitive bidding drove Cuno Amiet’s nude of Hilda Trog from the year 1912 from CHF 50 000 up to CHF 282 500 (lot 3042).
