Texas Contemporary returns for fifth edition
Texas Contemporary 2011.

HOUSTON, TX.- Texas Contemporary returns to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston's historic downtown district this October 1 - 4 to build on its years of success as the region's leading contemporary and modern art fair. New dates, a robust programming schedule, top local and national galleries, and the launch of The Other Mexico will afford the fair and the region's active arts community new opportunities for engagement with the best in modern and contemporary art from around the world.

THE OTHER MEXICO
Texas Contemporary's fifth edition marks the launch of the fair's dynamic partnership with The Mexican Consulate in Houston's Department of Cultural Affairs to present The Other Mexico, soon to be a conduit for contemporary art between Houston and Mexico. Bernardo Paz said "Otherness is what constitutes us...those realities we call cultures and civilizations are elusive." This innovative program is meant to highlight Mexico City's ground-breaking arts scene, one that reflects its city's constantly churning internal dialogue. Houston and Mexico City have long been connected - the roots of Texas patronage span across the state's southern border into the heart of the booming city. Curated by Mexico City based independent curator Leslie Moody Castro in partnership with Bill Arning, Director of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the presentation will feature eight galleries and project spaces including Yautepec Gallery, Anonymous, Enrique Guerrero, Galeria Parque, Galeria Marso, and Casa Maauad, reflecting Mexico City's rapid materialization as an incredibly unique focal point of the global art forum.

A LOCAL PRESENCE
Texas Contemporary will continue to highlight local galleries instrumental in shaping the dialogue of contemporary art in Texas including Inman Gallery, Moody Gallery, Barbara Davis Gallery, Devin Borden Gallery, David Shelton Gallery, DARKE Gallery, and Cardoza Fine Art. We're also excited to welcome back the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston as our Preview Beneficiary. Last year's Benefit Preview raised over $25,000 for CAMH, and we're looking forward to continuing our work with this beloved institution.

Texas Contemporary Sponsors The Wall Street Journal, J.P. Morgan Private Bank, and Perrier will work alongside VIP Lounge Designers Kelie Mayfield and Erick Ragni of MaRS, in collaboration with Houston's Internum, to ensure an engaging and vibrant space for the exhibition of outstanding art. With the support of the Houston community and the city's galleries and institutions, Texas Contemporary looks forward to returning to the George R. Brown Convention Center for our strongest year yet.
