HONG KONG.- Christies announces a Preview in Hong Kong to showcase selected Highlights of its New York Autumn Auctions. The Preview is being held from 2 to 4 October 2015 at Christies Hong Kong, featuring international highlights across 5 categories:
The Artist's Muse: A Curated Evening Sale of 20th Century Art, New York | 9 November
Post-War and Contemporary Art, New York | 10 & 11 November
Impressionist and Modern Art, New York | 12 & 13 November
Magnificent Jewels, Geneva | 10 November
Important Jewels, New York | 20 October
Amongst the highlights to be featured will be Amedeo Modiglianis masterpiece Nu Couche (Reclining Nude), offered for sale for first time. Executed in 1917-18, the painting will be the centerpiece of a special curated Evening Sale of 20th Century art focused on the theme of The Artists Muse. Estimated to exceed US$100 million, the portrait is poised to break the standing world auction record of US$70.7million for any work by Modigliani, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
After the resounding success of Christies innovative, cross-category approach to its major May sales series, which generated USD1.7bn in total sales, Christies will once again have all the major works from its Impressionist, Modern, PostWar and Contemporary Sales to be exhibited in New York at the same time and sold in one week.
Jussi Pylkkanen, Christies Global President and Chief Auctioneer, said, Our May 20th Century art series saw a record number of visitors attending our curated viewings at Rockefeller Center, leading to an unprecedented number of bidders in the salerooms. Feedback from our clients shows a huge appetite for cross-category collecting between Impressionist and Post-War art two categories traditionally kept separate from one another. Our calendar change reflects this change in collecting taste. I look forward to witnessing the same wonderful atmosphere in the New York salerooms this coming season as once again we work to curate sales that capture the imagination of the worlds leading art collectors.
