LONDON.- Phillips announces the appointment of Genevieve Janvrin as Head of Photographs, Europe. Genevieve will be based in London and will work as a strategic partner to Worldwide Head of Photographs, Vanessa Hallett, developing and managing sales within Europe.
With over 15 years experience in the market for photography, Genevieve began her career in 2002 at Michael Hoppen Gallery in London before moving on in 2007 to hold the inaugural London Photographs sale for Phillips de Pury & Company, where she remained for two years. Since 2009 she has worked for Rex Irwin Fine Art in Sydney, Australia and subsequently returned to London where she has been privately advising and working for Magnum Photos.
With over $16 million in sales globally for 2015, the international Photographs Department at Phillips has been a consistent leader in the field. The department has offered highly successful single-owner sales including; Photographs from the Collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, Innovators of Photography: A Private East Coast Collection, The Curious Collector: Important Photographs from the Collection of Dr. Anthony Terrana, and The Face of Modernism: A Private West Coast Collection. The Phillips Photographs Department currently holds world records at auction for works by Helmet Newton, Sally Mann, Elger Esser, Nobuyoshi Araki, Pieter Hugo, and Peter Lindbergh and has achieved strong results for works by Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, William Eggleston, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Francesca Woodman. Known for introducing new talent in their auctions, the Photographs Department also currently holds the world records for works by Alex Prager and Ruud Van Empel, both of whom were introduced in sales at Phillips.
