LUGANO.- Spink will be offering a highly interesting sale containing fresh material originating from collections put together over decades, including many items which have not appeared on the market for a long time. The sale will take place on the 16th December 2015 in Lugano.
The sale has a vast variety of material that will catch the keen collectors interest. It features much Europe, the riches part of which is France. Indeed the section of France contains items of the highest and rarest quality, such as lot 25, an 1852, 10c. bistre-yellow, a mint example with original gum. A very fine and most desirable example of a highly difficult stamp in mint condition which is rarely offered on the market. Lot 25, estimated 5,000
This sale also boasts the second part of the Professor Shaul Ladany collection of telegrams and telegraph stamps, including European countries, Latin America and a few Asian territories. There are many items of great attractiveness for all collectors of traditional philately and postal history, either from classic or semi- modern periods. Of particular interest in this collection is lot 469, a telegram bearing two single examples and two strips of four 1870 28kr. / 1fr. Green. All stamps have been punched following the norm and cancelled by blurred oval blue strikes of the telegraphic station of Haidhausen, and then paying the rate corresponding to 39 words in Austrian territory. This lot demonstrates the largest recorded franking of this value, and its rarity is further enhanced by exhibiting the largest multiple known usage of the two highest denominations. One single 4fl 40kr. value would have covered the fees but was not allowed at this station on telegrams addressed to external European countries. Truly a fascinating item. Lot 469, estimated 5,000
Spink are also offering a historic and highly interesting section of aeronautical memorabilia. Including the most important assembly ever formed of Italian aerostatics and balloons and an extraordinary collection of the pilot Francesco de Pinedo. There is much correspondence addressed to him and even the original route maps carried by the pilot during part of his most famous aerial achievements. For example, lot 1098 is the unique route map carried by De Pinedo from Karachi to Calcutta in his flight Rome-Melbourne-Tokyo-Rome from 1925, Spink have very high hopes for this incredible piece of aviation memorabilia. Lot 1098, estimated 1,500
