LAKELAND, FLA.- Polk Museum of Art is working with British artist Russell Young on “Forever Young: A Retrospective,” his first U.S. museum exhibition. “Forever Young” opened at PMoA on December 12 and will be on view through March 26.

Born in 1959 in Northern England, Young attended Chester Art College and eventually became a photographer in the entertainment industry. For 20 years, Young was a promotional photographer for some of music’s most iconic artists and directed more than 100 music videos for MTV. As executives increasingly made creative decisions, Young grew disenchanted with the industry. In 2000, he retreated to his studio and began focusing exclusively on his own work as an artist. Three years later, he exhibited his first series of screenprints, “Pig Portraits,” which examined the less glamorous side of celebrity. Young’s subsequent series followed suit; “Rebel Rebel,” “Dirty Pretty Things,” “Bankrobber” and “American Envy” all cast a critical light on society’s obsessions with sensationalism. “Forever Young” will include works from several of these series as well as more recent works by Young.

Young’s work has been shown at numerous galleries in London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, New York, Detroit, Miami and Los Angeles. He also is included in acclaimed collections belonging to Elizabeth Taylor, Brad Pitt, The Saatchi Collection, President Barack Obama, David Bowie, The Estate of Marilyn Monroe and the Polk Museum of Art.

The exhibition will be celebrated at a reception featuring light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar at 6 p.m. Friday, January 8, at the Museum. Members will be admitted for free; guests are $10.

In addition, Young will give a lecture beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at the Museum. The lecture is free and open to the public; there will be a cash bar. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
