LONDON.- The global photography prize Prix Pictet will begin world tour of the Finalists’ Exhibition for the sixth cycle of the prize at Somerset House from 5 to 17 January 2016.

The Prix Pictet Finalists’ Exhibition comes from Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, where the French photographer Valérie Belin was announced winner of the CHF 100,000 (GBP 66,000) prize by Kofi Annan at an award ceremony in November.

Centred around the theme ‘Disorder’, the exhibition features work by the twelve shortlisted photographers who are Ilit Azoulay (Israel), Valérie Belin (France), Matthew Brandt (United States), Maxim Dondyuk (Ukraine), Alixandra Fazzina (United Kingdom), Ori Gersht (Israel), John Gossage (United States), Pieter Hugo (South Africa), Gideon Mendel (South Africa), Sophie Ristelhueber (France), Brent Stirton (South Africa) and Yang Yongliang (China).

There will be an artist conversation on 13 January between Prix Pictet’s sustainability advisor Leo Johnson and the photographer Gideon Mendel on his series Drowning World, Mendel’s long-term project to explore the effects of climate change and the increasing number of extreme weather events as a result of global warming.

Founded in 2008 by the Pictet Group in Switzerland, the Prix Pictet has gained global recognition for showcasing leading photographers’ contributions to the debate about the most pressing social and environmental challenges of today. The five previous laureates were Benoît Aquin, Nadav Kander, Mitch Epstein, Luc Delahaye and Michael Schmidt.

After London, the exhibition of the shortlisted images will continue to tour the world, beginning at MAXXI in Rome and then travelling to major international museums and galleries including the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, Geneva; Westbau, Zurich; CAB (Contemporary Art Brussels), the Palau Robert, Barcelona and the Museum of Photographic Art, San Diego.
