MIAMI, FLA.- Curators Voice Art Projects presents Vestales, a solo show, curated by Milagros Bello PhD, an exhibition of 12 sculptural pieces plus an installation by Argentine artist Amalia Amoedo.
The show highlights Amoedos powerful body of work recently produced by the artist, and is on display in Wynwood Art District in Miami from Saturday April 2 to June 4, 2016.
With a unique style and inspired by what she describes as colorful and unconventional, she features a group of 12 unicorn sculptures, each of one representing the 12 zodiac signs plus an immense tent in which there is a gigantic unicorn inside a rotating metal cage. The unicorns heart in live purple color is constantly beating and flashing as being alive. The inspiration of her artwork is based on mythology and astrology, delivering a strong philosophical message with vibrant colors and textures in collage. In a world where we are full of uncertainties, I am interested in finding an astrological message for those answers, said Amalia Amoedo.
The shows title Vestales identifies the virgin vestals that maintained the fire in the temples of the Vesta Goddess or Aio Locucio in the Roman Mythology.
The Argentine-based artist creates beautifully crafted sculptures of wood, fabric, oil, acrylic, fiberglass, resins, semiprecious gems, papers, velvets, nail polish, silk and perfumes. She draws out the spiritual, mythological, astrological and surrealistic qualities of objects through her distinctive use of shapes and colors, which conjure a dialogue with her memories, beliefs and answers she has found in life during her growing artistic career. Today, I 'm working with thematic series, but my career was not always like that. I am extremely intuitive and spontaneous with my work, faithful to my desire to communicate. I feel the work before creating it, I imagine their textures and colors, Amalia said.
The show conveys multiple metaphorical meanings in which the artist combines mythological, astrological, and philosophical axes: Unicorns, Zodiac Signs and Vestals ensemble unifying concepts such a purity, love, healing and work as an equivalent to cultural symbols, orienting the viewer to reflect on the ancestral powers of the icons and the cosmic elements they represent.
The show displays 12 multicolored tridimensional unicorns that also represent the 12 Zodiac Signs and their cosmic powers. They are arranged in the space in ritualistic dynamic combinations, some set on the ground, others into the walls, and others are installed in the outdoor part of the gallery. All of them present the allure of Vestals (priestesses of Vesta Goddess of Earth in the Roman Mythology) infuse the space with an essence of purity and virtuosity, explained Milagros Bello, Ph.D.- Curator of the Show.
In the center of the show it stands a huge embroidered tent. Inside there is a gigantic unicorn that is imprisoned in a metal cage. Chains and huge keys are intertwined into the cage. In the body of the unicorn one can see and hear the beats of its heart: the thirst for freedom and liberation. This installation alludes to the Unicorn in the Medieval Tapestries, in which it is believed it represented the tamed love and the union of marriage but also it alluded to the human imprisonment and limitation.
