NEW YORK, NY.- Marlborough Gallery announces a group exhibition entitled Large Sculptures with works by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Alice Aycock, Fernando Botero, Santiago Calatrava, Red Grooms, Robert Lazzarini, Clement Meadmore, Michele Oka Doner, Tom Otterness, Beverly Pepper, Arnaldo Pomodoro, George Rickey, David Rodríguez Caballero, Kenneth Snelson, Manolo Valdés and Ursula von Rydingsvard. The exhibition opened on April 7th and remains on view through May 7th, 2016.

The 16 artists included in this exhibition have each produced critically acclaimed bodies of work that are internationally recognized through their placement in important public and private art collections. The collective artists’ oeuvre spans the breadth of 20th and 21st Century sculpture, breaking aesthetic ground and defining new categories of sculptural experience and expression. The exhibited works, though diverse in character, exemplify the individual artists’ shared commitment to physicality and to the object as sculptural medium. In particular, these artists have exerted significant international influence on sculpture through their monumental works, permanently sited in cities around the world from New York to Tokyo and London to Qatar.

Among the new works on view are Small Twist (2013-16) a white powder coated-aluminum sculpture by Alice Aycock; Dama (2016), a 10 plus foot-tall aluminum sculpture composed by Manolo Valdés; Kissing Spheres (2016) a unique stainless steel sculpture by Tom Otterness; and Ursula von Rydingsvard’s tactile and quietly emotive For Natasha (2015). The exhibition also includes Santiago Calatrava’s S-3 (2015) a complex tension compression sculpture which was recently exhibited on Park Avenue.

Since the 1950’s, Marlborough has maintained a specialization in monumental sculpture. The gallery has represented and fielded major exhibitions of works by many seminal 20th and 21st Century sculptors, including many of those included in this exhibition. This specialization in monumental sculpture has led to the development of a unique expertise in all aspects of sculpture, such as fabrication, logistics, maintenance and material conservation. Marlborough’s commitment to sculpture includes the operation of a 25,000 square foot warehouse with bridge crane in Brooklyn, NY to facilitate the handling of monumental sculptures.
