MEXICO CITY.- The prestigious Latin American auction house
Morton Subastas will set to auction an important selection of antiques and European furniture. The sale will take place on May 26th, 2016 at 7:00 PM. An exceptional oportunity to acquire magnificent artworks and various objects of remarkable beauty, high quality and value. Outstanding pieces that have endure across the time.
The auction expected to be quite an important event will have significant pieces of furniture, such as: cabinets, commodes and chests, manufactured with noble materials and marvelous tecniques whose elements reflect the different moments in time, as well as their impecable taste. One of the top lots of the sale is a breathtaking late 19th century German cabinet, profusely decorated with Meissen porcelain plaques, hand-decorated with galant scenes and bouquets. In the interior, comprising several drawers and a facinating hidden compartment that rotates, decorated with an heraldic emblem related to King of Poland Augustus II, Elector of Saxony and Great Duke of Lithuania. Quite a rarety not only for its ornateness, but also for its high manufacturing, with the intentionality to be part of a more private space and reserved for the owner´s introspection.
As fascinating as the furniture, are the religious sculptures and paintings; for instance the late 17th century artworks by New Spain virtuouso artist Juan Correa (active between 1676 and 1716) and his representation of the Transit of Saint Joseph and the attribution of the Apparition of the Virgin to Saint Simon. Both works filled with religious poignancy and a quintessential pictorical proficiency.
Properties of a lady, is a fine collection of objects, including Chinese coral carvings of remarcable beauty and color, Mexican silver of important makers, European porcelain figurines, impressive oriental ivory carvings, among which there is an exeptional Japanese Shibayama ivory tusk vase, with inlaid horn, mother-of-pearl, wood and silver applications; without a doubt a fine example of the Japanese philosophy applied to a decorative object.
Also a rare Nocture Radio from the late 1930´s concieved by the american company Sparton and the visionary designer Walter Torwin Teague, whose brilliant design, with its round shape mirrored glass, satin chrome steel and painted wood structure, placed it as an icon of modernity during the Art Deco period. A piece of Industrial Design History that transformed an utilitarian object into a work of art.
Likewise Morton Subastas offers, an unusual pair of late 19th century American carriages standing out for its singularity and rarety. Both transportations insert themselves in the imaginary of everyone that looks, inviting them to join and be absorbed by all the multiple considerations that they provide.
Finally, the auction is complemented with an exceptional collection of sixteen Old Master Paintings, from Manierism to Romanticism. Each one of them, great artworks worthy of the finest collections and museums around the world. Like the extraodinary portrait of Charles II by the magestous brush of Asturian painter Juan Carreño de Miranda.
