STOCKHOLM.- Since its opening in 2006, Bonniers Konsthall has established itself as one of the leading Swedish platforms for contemporary art. One year ago, renowned architect firm Marge embarked on making alterations to the Celsing-designed landmark building. Internationally acclaimed, Marge specializes in modifications of existing structures, particularly galleries and museums, and notably did the Moderna Museet redesign in Stockholm.

This major refurbishment of Bonniers Konsthall is a natural continuation of its determination to facilitate access to art. For the same reason, as of 2015 Bonniers Konsthall offers free admission to all exhibitions.

Today Bonniers Konsthall proudly reopens its doors.

The opening show marks the 30-year celebration of the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation, and displays its collection. Founded by Jeanette Bonnier in 1986, the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation annually awards grants to young artists. Jeanette Bonnier also founded Bonniers Konsthall, as a physical embodiment for the work of the foundation, and as a home for her love of art.

79 artists have received the grant so far. Grant recipients work within a wide variety of artistic fields, methods and expressions and the exhibition, curated by Theodor Ringborg, includes a broad spectrum of paintings, sculptures, videos, drawings, objects, installations and performance. The pieces in the exhibition have been purchased by the foundation when each artist was awarded the grant, meaning that the collection mainly consists of early works. Each work offers a snapshot of a specific artistic practice and time, but together they also embody the developments in Swedish art over three decades.

The Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation continues its work by awarding annual grants to young Swedish artists. The 2015 grant recipients are Caspar Forsberg, Linus Nordensson Spångberg and Max Ockborn, who are exhibiting entirely new work in the exhibition.
