LONDON.- Bonhams watch department is pioneering a new type of auction for the company, with the launch of the first Bonhams sale to be conducted exclusively online.

Opening on 27 May and closing on 9 June, the sale will consist of 119 watches selected from the single-owner Collection of a European Nobleman.

Matthew Girling, Bonhams Global CEO, said: “Bonhams has long recognized the importance of the online platform for our clients around the world. The internet continues to grow as a trusted bidding method as we have seen from the many lots sold through online bidding, most notably the 1990-93 Porsche Type 962 C Endurance Racing Competition Coupe sold in 2015 for €1,495,000.

“We now look forward to our first online only auction with Bonhams watch department, and we hope it will be an effective and useful platform for our clients. We anticipate holding more online only auctions across a range of departments in the future.”

The inaugural sale features important brands, such as TAG Heuer, IWC, Breitling, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Longines. Each lot is entered at no reserve.

Jonathan Darracott, Bonhams Global Head of Watches, said: “The watch department will pioneer Bonhams first online only auction with a selection of lots from the Collection of a European Nobleman.
