HONG KONG.- Parkview Art Hong Kong, celebrated the launch of Botero in Hong Kong today; a major exhibition featuring 9 important sculptures by the world-renowned Colombian artist Master Fernando Botero. Delivering the iconic “Boterismo” style to Hong Kong, the monumental artworks engage in a dynamic dialogue with the densely-built environment of the city. Presented in collaboration with Central Venue Management Limited (CVM) and Botero in China, it will be open free of charge to the public from 3rd June to 14th August at the Central Harbourfront Event Space.

“We are excited to launch this public art initiative in collaboration with our partners” stated Mr. Alberto Annesi, Managing Director, PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong. “Master Botero is one of the most widely recognised living artist of the world, and we strongly believe that this exhibition will contribute to the wealth of contemporary art programmes increasingly available to the local public. It is PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong’s vision to deliver world-class art to Hong Kong, enriching our cultural landscape to engage with local audiences.”

Created between 1982 and 2003, the 9 large-scale sculptures exhibiting in Hong Kong for the first time invite audiences to explore the voluptuous, voluminous and sinuous forms for which Master Botero has become internationally renowned. The exhibition includes female nudes, reclining figures and animals, collectively presenting the artist’s exploration of formal ideals, and cultural traditions related to sculpture in the history of art.

“Hong Kong is the third leg of this touring exhibition, after a series of “Botero in China” exhibitions held at the National Museum of China in Beijing in November 2015 and the China Art Museum in Shanghai in January 2016. We had record- breaking visitor numbers, close to two million, and tremendous visitor response, which we are hopeful, will translate to the Hong Kong audience. Master Botero’s visual language is global, from leading international institutions, to the Champs- Élysées and cities all over the world, the artworks transcend boundaries and engages with all. The audience response is visceral.” shared Mr. Juan Montana, Director, Botero in China.

A fully illustrated catalogue, Botero in Hong Kong, will be published to commemorate the public art event. The exhibition will also mark the opening of CVM’s SummerFest@Central Harbourfront, which will run from 3rd June to 14th August with a series of free public events such as guided art tours organised by PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong, and family, environment and sports activities for the people of Hong Kong to enjoy.
