NEW YORK, NY.- The Board of Trustees of The Noguchi Museum today announced the appointment of Malcolm C. Nolen as Board Chair. Mr. Nolen, who joined the Board in 2007 and has served as its Vice Chair since 2010, succeeds David D. Holbrook, who joined the Board in 2001 and served as its Chair for six years, and who will continue to serve as a Museum trustee.

Museum Director Jenny Dixon states, “We are thrilled that Malcolm Nolen will be leading the Museum as it enters the next phase of its history. Following David Holbrook is no simple task, but I cannot think of anyone more suited than Malcolm, whose thoughtfulness, vision, and commitment to the Museum have helped to shape everything we do. On behalf of all of my colleagues, I offer our profound gratitude to David for his many years of dedicated and intrepid leadership, and to Malcolm for taking us into a still brighter future.”

Mr. Nolen adds, “The Noguchi Museum has seen incredible growth under the leadership of David Holbrook, and I am honored to have been selected to carry it forward. I have been consistently impressed with the quality of not only the Museum’s superb exhibitions and education and public programs, but also with its deep commitment to scholarship and to ensuring that the building and garden remain the masterpiece that Noguchi designed while serving an ever-growing audience. I am eager to work with Jenny and the Museum’s superb staff to keep the momentum going as we move into the future.”

Malcolm Nolen is a distinguished supporter of cultural institutions and projects. In addition to serving on the Board of The Noguchi Museum—on which he served as Secretary from 2010 to 2014 and Vice Chair from 2014 to the present—Mr. Nolen is a trustee of the New York Botanical Garden. Together with his wife, Jennifer Nolen, he has supported major art projects in New York, including the installation of Mark di Suvero’s Yoga (2011–12), Oscar Tuazon’s multi-part sculpture People (2012–13), and Jeppe Hein’s Please Touch the Art (2015–16), all in Brooklyn Bridge Park. In 2007, he and his family endowed an education center at the Yale University Art Gallery.

In addition to his work in the nonprofit sector, Mr. Nolen is Managing Director of Signal Equity, a privately held firm.

Mr. Nolen received a BA from Yale University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He lives with his wife and children in Brooklyn, New York.
