Newington-Cropsey Foundation hosts the exhibition: Paul Moro: A Painter's Journey
Floral Bounty by the Bay, Dennis, MA, 1936. Oil on board, 24 x 36 inches. Private collection.

HASTINGS ON HUDSON, NY.- Paul Moro: A Painter’s Journey, is a retrospective exhibition of the vigorous, energetic paintings of Moro, a largely unknown twentieth century artist. Known in the New York area as a fine art conservator and restorer working out of his own busy studio, the Italian born artist relegated his painting career to a part time endeavor, greatly limiting his productivity and fame. This retrospective covers the entirety of his 45 year painting career, with most exhibited works owned by his descendants, an exception being a painting from the collection of the Hirshhorn Art Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Many of the paintings in this exhibition have never been seen by the public before. Exhibited together, they reveal the evolution of a painter with classical training and Italian influences, and they demonstrate his steady development into a confident artist with a keen eye and masterful technique. His subject matter was eclectic, and he was fascinated by his surroundings and the human activity he observed. His portraits, depictions of leisure and nature, parks, gardens, shorelines, and flowers are evidence of his varied interests.

This exhibition is a continuation of the Foundation’s work to present representational art for public enjoyment and appreciation. Organized by Mrs. Adelia Rasines, Executive Director of the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, the exhibition is accompanied by a full color catalogue with essay and biographical information written by guest curator Valerie Ann Leeds.

The Moro exhibition is open to the public from June 6 – July 29, 2015. Hours are Monday through Friday from 1pm to 5pm. There are no charges or donations required to view the exhibition.
