MIAMI, FLA.- The Summer of Women culminated in Miami with the opening on June 18 of Resonance/Dissonance: Six Women Video Artists from the de la Cruz Collection, at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU featuring the work of Tracey Emin, Susanne M. Winterling, Sarah Morris, Aida Ruilova, Quisqueya Henriquez and Beatriz Monteavaro. Curated by the Frost Art Museum’s Curator Klaudio Rodriguez in collaboration with Ibett Yanez, Director of the de la Cruz Collection, the immersive environment draws visitors into the museum’s Grand Galleries ̶ showcasing how these artists evocatively use single-channel video and sound as their platform for formal and conceptual experimentation. These six international artists exploit the range of video’s artistic potential and use the medium to explore themes of gender, violence, sexuality, the body, and popular culture.

“Women artists are still woefully underrepresented in the museum world,” says Dr. Jordana Pomeroy, Director of the Frost Art Museum. “At the Frost we are conscious of balancing representation and diversity, taking extra care to portray a well-rounded history of art. The Summer of Women highlights women artists whose reputations are emerging or world renowned, as well as a sophisticated collector in Rosa de la Cruz. Seen together, the three exhibitions (Resonance/Dissonance, Corita Kent and Suddenly Last Summer) engage the viewer in a multi-sensorial experience.”

These exhibitions reflect the state of contemporary art practices where the artists are at the forefront of this defining moment in American culture.” The de la Cruz Collection is a contemporary art space privately owned by Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz, which serves as an extension to their home where they have shared their collection with the public for more than 25 years.
