NEW YORK, NY.- Phillips announced the appointments of Robert Manley as Deputy Chairman and Senior International Specialist of 20th Century and Contemporary Art and Scott Nussbaum as Senior Specialist and Head of 20th Century and Contemporary Art in New York. The addition of these well-regarded industry leaders will strengthen Phillips’ team of international specialists and broaden the range of expertise the auction house offers collectors.

Mr. Manley joins Phillips from Christie’s, where he was Deputy Chairman of Post-War and Contemporary Art, and Mr. Nussbaum joins the company from Sotheby’s, where he was a Vice President in the Contemporary Art Department. Both will work closely with Hugues Joffre, Chairman of Europe and Worldwide Head of 20th Century Art, Jean-Paul Engelen, Phillips’ Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art, and the entire global leadership team to deliver best-in-class service and build the company’s brand around the world. Mr. Manley and Mr. Nussbaum will be based in New York and start their new positions in the fall of 2016.

Phillips also recently announced that Cheyenne Westphal, formerly Worldwide Director of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s, will join the company as Chairman in early 2017, based in London.

“We are actively building a world-class team of contemporary art experts as part of our growth strategy, and we are delighted that Robert and Scott are joining our team,” said Edward Dolman, Chief Executive Officer of Phillips. “They bring an enormous wealth of experience and contagious enthusiasm for 20th Century & Contemporary Art and will significantly strengthen our current team of specialists. They have a deep understanding of the art market and a passion for putting collectors first. Whether our clients are private collectors, members of the art community or institutions, our aim is to serve all of their needs with the highest levels of professionalism, trust and integrity.”

During his 16-year tenure at Christie’s, Mr. Manley led several Contemporary Art Evening Sales that were at the time the highest-grossing sales in auction history. He also worked closely with many of the world’s most prestigious collectors, and most recently helped bring to market the Arthur and Anita Khan Collection. In addition to an extensive client network in the United States, he spent the past 12 years regularly travelling to Asia to build client relationships. Based in New York, he will officially start at Phillips in October 2016.

Mr. Nussbaum joined Sotheby’s in 2005 as a cataloguer and attained the position of Vice President of Contemporary Art in 2012. In the past few years, he has worked with many of the world’s top collectors and institutions to secure many top works of art for auctions and private sales. He was also instrumental in coming up with departmental strategy for business getting and private selling exhibitions. He will start at Phillips in September 2016.
