LONDON.- From 1st July 2016, Halcyon Gallery will present Master Graphics – The Art of Printmaking, a rare and insightful collection of works on paper. Featuring works by the leading artists of the twentieth century, this exhibition is a must-see for art lovers and collectors alike.

Master Graphics – The Art of Printmaking encompasses works from practitioners on both sides of the Atlantic. Important works by Henri Matisse are displayed alongside Joan Miró’s semi-abstract fantasy forms and dream landscapes which comment on the relationships between nature, art and twentieth-century society. Other artists on display include Pablo Picasso with the linocut Tête de femme [Portrait de Jacqueline de face II] (1962) amongst others featuring the faces of the women who inspired him throughout his life. David Hockney also reveals his passion for portraiture in Celia with a Green Hat (1984), the bright palette as vivid and striking today as it was more than 20 years ago.

Master Graphics – The Art of Printmaking also includes seminal works by the early Pop protagonists – from the large comic-strip-style prints by Roy Lichtenstein, to Keith Haring’s Flowers I (1990) as well as works by Andy Warhol. Amongst portraits of iconic figures and celebrity friends such as screen siren Ingrid Bergman and champion heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali, Master Graphics – The Art of Printmaking also includes one of Warhol’s most celebrated portfolios, Cowboys and Indians - deriving from the treasure trove of archival photographs, postcards and images of Native American artefacts that the artist collected throughout his life.

Since the 16th century, printmaking has held an exceptional place in art history and prints now play a major contribution to museum collections and retrospective exhibitions. From etchings to aquatints, lithographs, carborundum prints and portfolios, Master Graphics is a vivid and exciting culmination of the very best printmaking on display in Halcyon Gallery. Conveying the progression in time of prints, the exhibition explores changes in depth of tone, variation in colour, diversity of line and the emotion conveyed.

With a specialised knowledge of the art market and a passion for printmaking, Halcyon Gallery have extensively researched and acquired particular and sought-after editions. Master Graphics – The Art of Printmaking offers a rare opportunity to view an integral piece of an artist’s oeuvre and explore collections of remarkable art.
