HONG KONG.- Lumieres Hong Kong, a mega event sponsored by the Mega Events Fund and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, announces its upcoming debut in November 2016, from 18th to 20th. Inspired by the world-renowned event in Lyon, France, “Fête des Lumières” (The Festival of Lights), Lumieres Hong Kong aims to illuminate Hong Kong with an array of multidiscipline installations projected on some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Accompanied by performance, audio effects and interaction with audience, the festival will provide a truly global platform for local and international audience to appreciate and celebrate the history, culture and heritage of Hong Kong.

The Hon. Jeffrey Lam, Chairman of the Mega Events Fund Assessment Committee expressed, “The Mega Events Fund is pleased to support the Lumieres Hong Kong which is a blend of arts, culture and entertainment to be staged for the first time in Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s history and culture will be promoted through light projection and effects on selected renowned buildings in the city. I am confident that this mega event will attract the attention of local and international audience and surely become one of the highlights in Hong Kong’s events calendar.”

Ms Rhoda Chan, Head of Charities (Grant Making – Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club said, ‘The Club attaches great importance to enhancing art accessibility for all, building platforms to showcase local talent, and encouraging exchange with international artists. In this case, our donation for Lumières Hong Kong not only covers the arts creation aspect, but also the launch of the Jockey Club “Lumières Hong Kong” Education Outreach Programme, through which young people and students will be able to join the public performances, create their own art pieces and help formulate the storyline of the lighting shows with local artists, exploring and showcasing their talents.

When asked about the vision of Lumieres Hong Kong, Dr. Andrew Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Association Culturelle France Hong Kong, said, “The festival invites the local public to re-discover the city, under a different light, and tourists to experience the distinctiveness and attractiveness of the territory with this world-class attraction.”

Light Show Promenade along 9 Iconic Sites During this three-day festival, 3D mapping projection and light installations will be displayed on nine iconic heritage buildings and sites in Central and Soho, creating a special light art promenade.

Selected for their unique heritage and historical interest, the nine sites represent a variety of period, uses and architectural features, covering the rich history of Hong Kong:

 Man Mo Temple (1847)  PMQ (1951)  Tai Kwun (since 1860s)  Fringe Club (1892)  Former French Mission Building (1917)  Statue Square (1896)  General Post Office (1976)  Hong Kong City Hall (1962)  Connaught Road Central Pedestrian Subway (1959)

Creations of Local and International Artists telling Hong Kong Story
Nine local and international artists will each showcase their creativity on the heritage sites through projection and lighting effects, in their best ways to represent Hong Kong’s local culture, history and heritage on one hand while demonstrating the city’s innovation and modernity on the other. Bridging the past and the future, their diverse creations will be embracing one theme - Hong Kong Story.

To nurture local talents, five local artists who excel in multimedia art and installations have been commissioned for this project, including Teddy Lo, Keith Lam, Hung Keung, Kingsley Ng and ChiYung Wong, while the other four artists were selected through an international proposal invitation process.
