MEXICO CITY.- Morton´s Mexican Art Sale will be held on September 13th at Monte Athos 179 saleroom. The sale will be led by a highly important selection of 19th century Mexican landscapes, painted by some of the finest artist of the Academy of San Carlos, such as Adolfo Tenorio and Cleofas Almanza –both outstanding students of Jose Maria Velasco and Eugenio Landesio. Likewise magnificent views and scenes by renowned traveler artists, like August Löhr, Conrad W. Chapman, Paul Fischer, Carl Nebel, Daniel Thomas Egerton, just for mention a few.

Another highlight is a magnificent painting by Manuel Serrano, an extraordinary representation of Mexican horsemen known as "chinacos". Through a well-accomplished composition and an earthly color palette, this traditional scene of the countryside and riders is expected to be quite an interesting lot to follow.

Also remarkable, is the Still Life by Tlaxcaltecan artist Agustín Arrieta. This piece shows not only the expertise of such a masterly brush, but also the delicacy of the lines and extensive knowledge of the representative elements of Mexican cuisine and interiors.

There is also a breathtaking portrait of a gentleman by the French artist Edouard Henry-Théophile Pingret, this artwork shows the refined technique of the painter, and its formation as Jacques Louis David´s pupil.

At last but definitely not least, the incomparable 18th century master painter Miguel Cabrera is represented through a series of Six Scenes of the Life of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. One of New Spain´s top artist ever known and for sure one of the jewels of the sale waiting to embellish a collection.

Among the other lots to be auctioned, there are various military medals, furniture, maps, religious paintings and sculptures, books and Mexican memorabilia. Without any doubt this sale is expected to be quite an occasion.
