NEW YORK, NY.- Eli Wilner & Company will contribute historically appropriate picture frames to the latest edition of Art Authority's beautiful and educational digital gallery experience. Art Authority's platform provides users with access to images of a comprehensive collection of works by over 1,000 of the western world's most important artists, from ancient times to today. Detailed captioning is provided for each image, including in depth information about each period and artist.
While previous versions of the Art Authority app have shown the paintings in frames, as well as a clever option to view real size with a silhouetted figure for scale, Art Authority president Alan Oppenheimer consulted renowned frame authority Eli Wilner to see if improvements could be made in how the paintings were digitally framed. Wilner curated a selection of nine exquisite frames that were then paired with the artworks in a historically appropriate manner, giving Art Authority users the ability to see how each artwork would appear in its full context.
The importance of frames and their relevance to art history has often been overlooked. For example, textbooks, auction catalogs, and even museum websites will rarely show a painting in its surround, leaving everyone from students to curators to collectors in the dark about frames. In 38 years of business, Eli Wilner has made significant contributions by educating both the public and arts professionals about frame history through books and lectures, by opening their studio to demonstrations of the now rare arts of gilding and wood carving, and by assisting museums of all sizes in restoration, replication, and renovation projects. Eager to take advantage of technological advancements, Eli Wilner & Company created eWilner Frames, an iOS app that allows users to turn their personal photos into masterpieces by selecting from 100 of the greatest frames in their inventory, each supported with historical background information.
Eli Wilner & Company sees this collaborative opportunity with Art Authority as an exciting way to maintain their commitment to education as well as their continued focus on frame-awareness by utilizing digital frames and framing technology to increase outreach potential.
