Mark Napier Sells Shares of Net Art

NEW YORK.- Artist Mark Napier has chosen to sell shares of net art. His work "The Waiting Room" is at bitforms gallery and on sale for $1,000 each share. The Waiting Room is a virtual space that 50 users share through the Internet. In this space the visitor becomes a participant in a moving painting. Their actions activate and shape the artwork, shifting the screen through moods, from hard-edged to atmospheric, from dark to light, from quiet to chaotic. Each click creates a shape, a shadow or a wall, a suggestion of architecture or a dissolving light. Napier hopes to sell the fifty shares of this work where the shareholders participate in the art work. When the shareholder clicks the screen, graphics appear on the screen (ovals, spirals, squares, etc.) Napier stated, "It’s not about 50 copies of the same work of art, but of a unique art work shared online. When one owns this work, he is really sharing it."
