LONDON.- With the fast onset of digitalisation in cinemas, film posters may be a dying breed, but poster specialist Bruce Marchant is ensuring there are still many quality pieces coming to the market this November.

In the region of 100 posters, lobby cards and production stills from the 1920s to the 1990s will be for sale at the online auction from 9th – 11th November, with the catalogue viewable on www.25BlytheRoad.com from the 26th October. This is an ideal auction for entry level/first time collectors; estimates start at £150, going up to £5,000.

SciFi, Horror, Comedy, Drama, Romance – all these categories are represented in this film posters and memorabilia sale spanning 40 years; something to everybody’s ‘Big Screen’ taste.

Highlights from the 1950s include a poster advertising the well known film Rebel Without a Cause (1955). This has a poignant association, as the movie star, James Dean, tragically died just before the film’s release. It carries an estimate of £2500-£3500. From a similar period, The Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957), a Horror Sci Fi Comedy movie poster depicting spine chilling aliens has an estimate of £3000 - £5000 is one of the most sought after of this genre. Later movie posters in the sale include Jaws (1975), estimated £800 - £1200 which, despite the mechanical sharks constantly breaking down during filming, is one of the great movies of the 20th century, and the first film to gross more than $100 million. The poster displays the direct and utterly terrifying threat of the hidden shark.

A Back to the Future poster, (1985) starring the teen idol Michael J Fox, is estimated at £500-£800 and a Trainspotting poster (1996) is a tempting £250 - £350. This cult classic celebrates in 20th anniversary this year, with an eagerly awaited sequel coming out in 2017.

All the posters were issued for advertising purposes at the time of the release of the film, and were never meant to be sold. In spite of this, most are in very good condition. Well known poster designers are another important focus for collectors, and are in good number in this sale, look out for names such as Bill Gold, Reynold Brown, Bob Peak and Albert Kallis.
