NEW YORK, NY.- The Garment District Alliance unveiled the latest in its ongoing series of public art exhibits, showcasing watercolor and digital fashion works titled Metropolitan Fashion, created by New York-based illustrator Nina Edwards.
Located in a street-level window on 215 West 39th Street, the free exhibit is accessible to the public through March 24th. Edwards artwork is part of the Garment District Space for Public Art program, which showcases artists in unusual locations throughout the year and has produced more than 175 installations, exhibits and performances.
The Garment District is known for fashion, design and creativity, and Metropolitan Fashions depiction of a chic fashionista in the city truly embodies the spirit of this neighborhood, said Barbara A. Blair, president of the Garment District Alliance. Nina Edwards is a tremendously talented artist, and we are thrilled to showcase her work through the Garment District Space for Public Art program.
Through watercolor and digital illustrations, Edwards work portrays fashion, travel and lifestyle in various metropolitan cities across the globe.
With a passion for contemporary glamour and elegant touches, Edwards works with fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands to create modern and stylish illustrations for creative campaigns, editorial content, surface patterns, branding and more. Her clients have included Scholastic, Target, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Bridal Guide, Seventeen Magazine, Madison Park Greetings, Design Inc., and Starbucks, among others.
Currently, Edwards also teaches graphic design, fashion illustration, and art licensing courses at Pratt Institute. During New York Fashion Week in 2016, she was invited by Apples Fifth Avenue flagship store to demonstrate how to use simple sketching apps to create fashion illustrations, modify photos and also shared tips for creating a digital portfolio. Edwards also presented another successful fashion illustration demonstration at the Apple store on the Upper West Side.
Born in Taiwan, Edwards graduated from New Yorks Fashion Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion illustration, and later earned a Master of Fine Arts in illustration from California State University.
