SANTA FE, NM.- Peters Projects announces a solo exhibition by local Santa Fe artist James Marshall titled BLACK INTERFUSION. This is Marshall’s first solo show at Peters Projects and opened Friday, February 24. The exhibition will be on view through May 6th.

For nearly two decades Marshall has explored what he calls “The Liminal Object,” fueled by minimalist aesthetics and the potential for an ordinary object to shift dimensions and space. Marshall has had an intense period of working within limited parameters and putting them through the process of constant refinement and reduction.

Exploring new surfaces on his monolithic sculptures, the exhibition will be exclusively works in black on sculptures that are the artists’ signature forms. These new works exhibit an additional element, that of interfusion. This is revealed on his surfaces with two matte glazes, a dense black and a pewter or gunmetal black, each occupying an area within the piece.

Marshall received his MFA at the University of Michigan and has exhibited extensively during his career with well over 15 solo exhibitions around the US. His work is included in the collections of the Nerman Museum, Kansas City, MO; the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, AZ; the Daum Museum, Sedalia, MO plus numerous other public institutions. Marshall is head of ceramics at Santa Fe Community College for the past 18 years.

Peters Projects is a commercial gallery space located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, and represents a broad and compelling range of national and international artists. Peters Projects began its program in 2014 to offer current contemporary and thought provoking artwork. Owner Gerald Peters envisioned Peters Projects in his largest gallery as a crucial expansion of Contemporary Art that competes globally. Most recent programs include a new diverse direction of Contemporary Native and First Nation artists who challenge the viewer in current dialogue in art with Curator / Director Eileen Braziel, and a ceramics and design program with Curator / Director Mark Del Vecchio, and advising from Author / Curator, Garth Clark.
