HONG KONG.- Phillips announced the appointment of Meiling Lee as an International Specialist in 20th Century & Contemporary Art, based in Taiwan, adding to the company’s major expansion in Asia. Phillips recently held its second successful sales in Hong Kong of 20th Century & Contemporary art, design, watches and jewellery, representing the latest stage of the company’s strategic growth in the region.

“After another successful sale of contemporary art and design in Hong Kong, we believe the time is right for Phillips to continue our expansion in the Asian market as we aim to build our reputation as the most innovative auction house in the region,” said Jonathan Crockett, Deputy Chairman and Head of 20th Century & Contemporary Art in Asia. “We are looking at long-term development and expanding our offerings of contemporary art and design, and we need to deepen our relationships with collectors across the continent. I’m delighted that Meiling joined us in Taiwan as our mission of building a major presence in the Asian market is a top priority for Phillips.”

Ms. Lee joins Phillips from Bonhams, where she was a Senior Specialist & Head of Sale for Modern and Contemporary Art in Taipei and Hong Kong. She had also previously worked at Tiancheng International Auctioneer Ltd., Hong Kong, as Director & Head of Modern and Contemporary Art; as the Deputy General Manager of My Humble House Art Gallery in Taipei; and as a Marketing Director & Secretary General for the Xue Xue Institute and Foundation in Taiwan.

Ms. Lee will join a rapidly expanding team in Asia. Phillips recently announced the appointment of Lilly Chan as Managing Director of Asia, based in the Hong Kong office. In addition, the company has added several senior members to the 20th Century & Contemporary Art team in the past 18 months, including Sandy Ma as Head of the Hong Kong Evening Sale of 20th Century & Contemporary Art, and Charlotte Raybaud as a Specialist in 20th Century & Contemporary Art in Hong Kong.

Along with growing the Hong Kong office, Phillips has made a series of key appointments to boost its presence in Asia in the past year, naming Jane Yoon as the regional representative in Korea, Cindy Yen in Taiwan and Kyoko Hattori in Japan.
