STOCKHOLM.- Moderna Museet appointed new curators to continue to develop the Museum's activities. Jo Widoff, who until now has been an exhibition curator, will extend her field to include responsibility for the international collection, while Lars Bang Larsen will join the Museum as an adjunct curator.
Jo Widoff has many years of experience of museum work and has curated several successful exhibitions, including Turner Monet Twombly (2011), Dance Machines (2013), Life Itself and Yayoi Kusama (both in 2016), and the current exhibition Marie-Louise Ekman, which, like previous exhibitions, have been highly acclaimed and widely covered in the media.
In competition with curators from the entire Nordic region, Jo Widoff has been appointed to the formidable and inspiring position of managing our international collection. She has already produced several fantastic exhibitions, and with this extended responsibility she will be a key staff member, says Ann-Sofi Noring, co-director of Moderna Museet.
Lars Bang Larsen will start as an adjunct curator at Moderna Museet this autumn. He has an established international reputation as a curator, critic and researcher, and is currently based in Copenhagen. Lars Bang Larsen has written seminal essays on oeuvres such as those of Öyvind Fahlström, Palle Nielsen and the circle of artists around the publication Puss. Last year, he co-curated the major São Paulo Biennale.
We are delighted that Lars Bang Larsen, with his impressive international and curatorial experience, is joining our team at Moderna Museet. He will have a substantial influence on the Museums exhibitions and events activities, and is exceptional with his roots in the Nordic art scene and his international perspectives, says Daniel Birnbaum, director of Moderna Museet.
Jo Widoff and Lars Bang Larsen will be part of the curatorial team with responsibility for the collection, and most of them also produces exhibitions: Anna Tellgren, head of research and curator of photography (specialising in early photography), Annika Gunnarsson, curator of drawings and prints, Fredrik Liew, curator of Swedish and Nordic art, and Lena Essling, curator of film and video. Matilda Olof-Ors, exhibitions curator, is also part of the curatorial team.
