LONG ISLAND CITY, NY.- MoMA PS1 announced the appointment of Ruba Katrib as Curator. In this role, she will organize exhibitions and programs at the museum, working closely with Chief Curator Peter Eleey. Ms. Katrib joins MoMA PS1 from SculptureCenter, where she has served as Curator since 2012. She will begin her new role on October 15.

“As a longtime admirer of Ruba’s work, I am thrilled that she is joining the museum,” noted Peter Eleey. “She is deeply engaged with artists here in New York and communities around the world, partnering closely with them to realize novel presentations of their work. As her inspired group shows suggest, she seeks connections between the conditions of life and the thicket of ideas and conversations that shape contemporary art, with a generosity that encourages audiences to share in her thinking,” Eleey continued.

MoMA PS1 Director Klaus Biesenbach adds, “Over the past five years, Ruba Katrib has organized a range of inventive and internationally acclaimed exhibitions for our fellow Long Island City institution, SculptureCenter. We look forward to having her distinctive and strong curatorial voice at MoMA PS1.”

As Curator at SculptureCenter, Ms. Katrib has organized more than 20 exhibitions and public programs. These have included premier exhibitions of artists including Cosima von Bonin, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, Jumana Manna, Anthea Hamilton, and Michael E. Smith, among others, as well as the Cercle d'Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC). Katrib has also organized acclaimed group shows including The Eccentrics (2016), Puddle, pothole, portal (with Camille Henrot, 2014), Better Homes (2013), A Disagreeable Object (2012), Modify, as needed (2011), The Reach of Realism (2009), and The Possibility of an Island (2008). In 2015, she co-organized Visitors, an exhibition of public art on Governors Island, with Tom Eccles.

From 2007 to 2012, Ms. Katrib worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, first as Assistant Curator and then as Associate Curator. In these roles, she founded new discursive and performance programs in addition to organizing exhibitions and making important acquisitions. She curated the first museum surveys of Cory Arcangel and Claire Fontaine, and was awarded a Curatorial Fellowship from the Andy Warhol Foundation in 2010 to support research on artist-run educational platforms throughout Latin America that included a symposium and publication. Ms. Katrib was a co-founder of the residency and exhibition space Threewalls in Chicago, and has also held positions at The Renaissance Society and The Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, from which she received a Master’s degree. She is a “Companion” research advisor for the 2018 Carnegie International, and a member of the Advisory Board for Recess, a non-profit artist residency and exhibition space in New York. She publishes and lectures widely on contemporary art and artists.

“I am thrilled and honored by this opportunity,” said Ms. Katrib. “MoMA PS1 is undoubtedly one of the most influential contemporary art museums today, and I look forward to continuing its legacy of working with artists at crucial points in their careers and introducing them to wider audiences. I am excited to join the team at MoMA PS1 to further the museum's reputation as a risk-taking institution that presents the most urgent art and ideas of our time”
