Asprey frame expected to command top interest, bids at Heritage Auctions' Silver & Vertu Auction
A 20th-century Gold, Diamond and Mother-of-Pearl Asprey Tri-Fold Frame. Est. $100,000-150,000.

DALLAS, TX.- Collectors of silver and gold will have an opportunity to bid on an extraordinary array of keepsakes at Heritage Auctions’ Fine Silver & Objects of Vertu Auction Oct. 17 in Dallas, Texas.

Expected to be among the top lots is a 20th-century Gold, Diamond and Mother-of-Pearl Asprey Tri-Fold Frame (est. $100,000-150,000) from London. Each of the three hinged panels is centered with a domed frame and surrounded by a mother-of-pearl field and diamond border with applied laurel and floral decoration in gemstone cabochons and diamonds.

An 1863 Large R&S Garrard & Co. Victorian Silver Nautical Figural Trophy (est. $30,000-50,000) from London features a detailed figure of Neptune/Poseidon clutching a trident while standing atop a dolphin or sea serpent, with scrollwork to the domed lid and rim below. Cascading below are thick kelp strands and mussel-form texture that extend to three handles on a shallow bowl, which is held aloft by three intertwined dolphins or sea serpents amid flowers and crashing waves, all raised on a custom-fitted wooden stand.

A Fabergé 14K Gold, Gilt Silver, Opalescent Enamel, Moss Agate and Diamond Vanity Case (est. $20,000-30,000) is decorated with white guilloche enamel on moiré ground, with three hinged compartments articulated with chased pink and yellow gold bands. Each hinged lid has a flange lift set with rose-cut diamonds; the middle lid has an oval moss agate within a border of rose-cut diamonds and opening to a mirror and secondary hinged lid.

A Pair of German Silver and Hardstone-Mounted Jousting Knight Figures (est. $20,000-30,000), probably Hanau, from the early 20th century stands 12 inches high, and 14 inches high with the bases. Lots like this have been pursued heavily in the past, especially in recent years. The candle holders in this piece, which was extremely important to its 19th-century owner, were made at a later date specifically for this piece, and the case was created to house this collection.

A Georg Jensen Silver Grape #383A Five-Light Candelabrum ($15,000-25,000), circa 1933-44 (but designed in 1920 in Copenhagen, Denmark) measures 10-1/4 inches high and 12-1/4 inches wide and weighs 92.78 troy ounces (nearly 2,886 grams).

An 1825 Matthew Boulton Silver and Cut-Glass Epergne from Birmingham, England (est. $15,000-20,000) could be grouped in with the Garrard trophy among coveted English lots. The Boulton silver epergne is extraordinary, in that most larger Boulton pieces are silver plated, rather than sterling. The candle holders were made specially at a later date for this piece, after which the case was made to hold the many parts.

A 1889 Rare Tiffany & Co. Enameled 18K Gold and Gold Quartz Match Safe in Original Iguana Leather Case, Attributed to Paulding Farnham for the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle (est. $10,000-15,000), from New York, includes a match safe with diagonal bands of raised geometric design enameled in green, alternating with diamond bands with flyover wire protecting a blue enamel surface. The design continues to the reverse with horizontal bands and has a hinged lid set with gold quartz and a leather-covered match strike. The case is covered in iguana hide; the interior is satin. The match safe’s undulating form and geometric enameled design are closely related to Native American-inspired designs created by Paulding Farnham for the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle.

Other top lots are expected to include, but are not limited to:

• A 12-Piece American Assembled Art Deco Silver and Enamel Cocktail Service, circa 1930: est. $15,000-20,000

• A Rare Tiffany & Co. Enameled 18K Gold and Gold Quartz Match Safe in Original Iguana Leather Case, Attributed to Paulding Farnham for the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle from New York, circa 1889: est. $10,000-15,000

• A Fine Three-Piece Tiffany & Co. Aesthetic Movement Silver Demitasse Set with Applied Marine Motifs from New York, circa 1902-07: est. $7,000-10,000

• A Four-Piece Gorham Martelé Silver Coffee Service from Providence, Rhode Island, circa 1905: est. $7,000-10,000
