NEW YORK, NY.- For the first time, Jason Jacques announces that selections from his renowned collection of European Art Pottery will be available to collectors in the Heritage Auctions’ Design sale on October 24th in Dallas. The New York Preview takes place September 20 through September 29 at the auction house’s satellite office, located at 455 Park Avenue.

For more than 25 years, Jason Jacques has been the preeminent purveyor of late 19th- and early 20th-century European ceramics through his New York City gallery, presenting seminal exhibitions and publications on the subject.

“This is our first auction and we’re delighted that the Jason Jacques Collection will be offered at Heritage,” says Jason Jacques.

Jacques’ collection includes a selection of approximately 200 works by many of the masters of the period, including rare works by Taxile Doat, Ernest Chaplet and Emile DeCoeur. Curated by Jacques in collaboration with Brent Lewis, Heritage’s Design Director, the sale includes a compelling selection of ceramics assembled over several decades, many of which are from Jacques’ private collection and have never been at auction.

Jacques has collected objects with defining Japonist, Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs. The selection at auction features works made by French, Italian, German, English, Hungarian and Dutch artists, and includes notable objects such as Alexandre Bigot's Frog in Pool Bowl, circa 1900 (est. $8,000-10,000), arresting glazes such Clément Massier’s Starry Sky Charger, 1890, lustre glazed stoneware (est. $6,000-10,000) and technical prowess such as Taxile Maxim Doat’s Medusa Charger, circa 1900, glazed porcelain (est. $10,000-15,000). Other highlights include works with impeccable provenance such as Ernest Chaplet’s Favorite Bowl, 1899, flambe-glazed porcelain (est. $10,000-12,000), which was held in the artist’s personal collection.

Additional highlights include Zsolnay’s landmark Landscape Vase, 1898, lustre glazed earthenware (est. $10,000-12,000), Edmond Lachenal’s stunning Green Vase with Applied Lizards, circa 1900, glazed earthenware (est. $8,000-12,000), René Buthaud’s Vase with Nudes realistic modelling (est. $7,000-10,000) and Jean Mayodon’s Fête Mythologique, circa 1946, glazed porcelain, (est. $15,000-20,000).

Says Brent Lewis: “Jason Jacques and Jason Busch have initiated this event to celebrate the history of the gallery as they continue to develop their exhibition program of contemporary artists and Europe’s masters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”

The auction will take place in Dallas, coinciding with Heritage’s Design sale, with highlights to be exhibited in Chicago and New York. A fully illustrated catalogue that presents historical information about many of the featured artists will accompany the sale. The majority of the lots will be offered without a reserve.
