LOS ANGELES, CA.- Discover your immortal lineage with “The Demigods,” a new Percy Jackson-themed free interactive mobile tour launching on Percy’s birthday, August 18 at the Getty Villa, with a special celebration that includes monstrous mythological photo opps and plenty of blue food.

Inspired by the best-selling Percy Jackson series of books and movies, “The Demigods” takes young visitors through the Villa on an audio adventure. Each visitor chooses their own destiny by identifying personal traits that may reveal the identity of their immortal parent. Along the way, visitors dive into mythology by interacting with Hercules, Venus, Hades and other gods and heroes while investigating the Villa’s collection of antiquities for clues and context.

"The Getty Villa is the perfect setting for bringing Percy Jackson’s world to life,” said Lisa Clements, Assistant Director of Education, Public Programs, and Interpretive Content. “Many of our younger visitors were first attracted to mythological characters and stories through the popular Rick Riordan book series. ‘The Demigods’ Villa tour invites them even deeper into that world by offering them choices and dilemmas rooted in mythology and connected to the story world of Percy Jackson.”

The individualized audio tour takes the form of a secret quest leading visitors from gallery to gallery, where their choices will help them identify their godly parents and evade monsters such Medusa and the temptations of Hades. At the culmination of the tour, our Camp Half-Blood candidates receive a keepsake bracelet identifying their divine parent and their camp cabin.

The Percy Jackson birthday party on August 18th is the official launch of the new audio tour, which will become a permanent offering at the Villa. Additional party highlights include performances throughout the day by the Troubadour Theater Company, interactive sculptures of mythological beasts and beings by Kiel Johnson, and a blue food menu at the café.
