DALLAS, TX.- Over a half century after Mickey Mantle established the World Series home run record with his 17th and 18th in the 1964 World Series, the jersey he wore as he launched those long balls set a record of its own at $1,320,000, the highest price ever paid at auction for a Mantle gamer. The price shatters the standing Mantle record of $486,000 set by Heritage Auctions just 18 months ago. The result marks just the fourth seven-figure sale of a game-worn jersey in sports collectibles auction history.

“That’s the power of Platinum Night,” explained Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Auctions for Heritage, referring to the high-value, low-volume format of the Aug. 18-19 Summer Sports Collectibles Auction. “For six- and seven-figure sports collectibles, there simply is no alternative for consignors looking to rocket past market norms.”

A pair of 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie cards gave the “The Commerce Comet” a sweep of the Platinum Night medals podium, with PSA-graded examples at NM-MT+ 8.5 and NM-MT 8 achieving sale prices of $810,000 and $420,000 respectively. The Dead Ball Era came alive as well, as a 1914 Boston Garters Ty Cobb, PSA VG-EX 4, PSA VG-EX 4, sold for $204,000, and a 1914 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson drew $144,000 in PSA EX 5 condition.

The gridiron market remained red-hot on Platinum Night, with Emmitt Smith’s 1989 Florida Gators jersey soaring to $48,000, and a 1959 LSU Tigers jersey worn by Billy Cannon during his Heisman-winning season commanded $24,000. In addition, a 2001 Photo Matched Jersey from recent Hall of Fame inductee Randy Moss drew a world-record price of $28,800.

Two more major hobby records fell on Saturday night, as Michael Jordan’s NBA debut set a new high-water mark for ticket stubs at $33,600, while a circa 1918 photograph by Charles Conlon raised the record for unsigned Babe Ruth photographs to $78,000.

· $72,000: The only known example of a 1914 Boston Garter Color Walter Johnson Card, SGC 30 Good 2

· $50,400: The very first 2013 Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII Championship Ring to ever to surface in the hobby

· $45,600: Bill Russell’s Game-Worn Boston Celtics Warm-Up Jacket, circa early- to mid-1960s

· $38,400: The First Signed Basketball from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics USA “Dream Team”
