Hayward Gallery appoints Brian Cass as Senior Curator of Hayward Gallery Touring
Brian Cass is currently Head of Exhibitions at Towner Art Gallery.



LONDON.- Brian Cass has been appointed Senior Curator of Hayward Gallery Touring at Southbank Centre. He will be taking up his new post at Hayward Gallery Touring on 19 November.

Brian Cass is currently Head of Exhibitions at Towner Art Gallery where he has overseen an ambitious programme of exhibitions and public programmes, working extensively with British and international artists and creating opportunities for emerging practices. Brian has also been responsible for developing the museum’s Collection, acquiring major works by artists including Dineo Seshee Bopape, Isaac Julien, Omer Fast amongst others. He was previously curator at Trinity College Dublin and The Irish Museum of Modern Art and he also led on managing the Turner Prize in Derry in 2013. He has written for exhibition catalogues and artist books, and directed and produced programmes for film and television. He was an external adviser to the Arts Council Collection Acquisitions Committee and in 2018 was a visual arts judge for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Artist’s Award.

Hayward Gallery Touring organises contemporary art exhibitions that tour galleries, museums and other publicly funded venues throughout Britain. Collaborating with artists, independent curators, writers and partner institutions to develop imaginative exhibitions that are seen by up to half a million people in over 45 cities and towns each year. The roster of exhibitions features a thought-provoking mix of subjects and artists, intended to complement and expand upon our partner-galleries’ programmes. These shows range in scale – from the British Art Show, the largest exhibition of contemporary art produced in the UK, taking place every 4 years, to smaller monographic print and photography exhibitions that tour to diverse venues, from galleries and museums to arts centres, libraries and schools.

Brian Cass will oversee the Hayward Gallery Touring programme under Ralph Rugoff’s direction.

The Senior Curator post was created to succeed Roger Malbert, Head of Hayward Gallery Touring who has retired after 34 years of service.
