SEOUL.- The National Palace Museum of Korea is presenting the special exhibition, Liechtenstein: 900 years of a Ruling Family in the Heart of Europe.

The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the few remaining countries named after its ruling family. Located between Switzerland and Austria, the country is the world’s sixth smallest in terms of area―about one-quarter of the size of Seoul. Still, the House of Liechtenstein has maintained a dynastic history over nine centuries amidst the rise and fall of numerous other royal families in Europe.

The collection of the House of Liechtenstein dates back to the establishment of the principality in the early seventeenth century when the family began cultivating the ideal of princely patronage. They have carried on this tradition over generations as renowned collectors and patrons of the arts.

The National Palace Museum of Korea’s special exhibition sheds light on the long history and rich culture of Liechtenstein by presenting highlights from the Princely Collections. The museum hopes that archival documents, historic weaponry, sumptuous daily objects, and masterpieces of European art featured in the exhibition offer an opportunity to understand the history and lifestyle of the Liechtenstein princely family.

The National Palace Museum of Korea promotes and preserves the culture of the Joseon royal and Korean imperial court by collecting, conserving, researching and exhibiting the related relics and artifacts. You can see the permanent exhibitions by diverse subjects and special exhibitions based on in-depth stories related to the Joseon royal and Korean imperial court with multifarious display methods. Various learning programs and cultural events are available in the museum.
