AMSTERDAM.- On 18 March 2019 Anna Bülow joins the Stedelijk Museum as Head of Collection Management. Bülow succeeds Daniëlle Lokin, who filled this role on an interim basis.

Prior to the Stedelijk Museum, Dr. Bülow worked as Head of Conservation and Scientific Research at the British Museum and as Head of Conservation and Head of Preservation at The National Archives in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the Hochschule der Kunsten in Bern, and completed a PhD dissertation entitled Preservation of library and archive collections.

Jan Willem Sieburgh, interim director of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam: “We are delighted to welcome Anna Bülow as our new Head of Collection Management and MT- member. Her expertise and international network are a valuable addition to the Stedelijk Museum.”

Anna Bülow: “When it comes to issues relating to collection management, as a conservator you are always trying to strike the right balance between preserving and using the collection. I think it’s fantastic to be able to use the Stedelijk Museum collection to explore sustainable ways of creating new connections between art and the public.”

The department of Collection Management is tasked with the physical management (depot management, conservation, restoration and art handling) and registration (the collection database, the library and the information centre) of the Stedelijk collections that currently hold some 100,000 objects. As Head of Collection Management, Anna Bülow is responsible for devising and implementing the policy that supports the development, management, storage, registration and documentation of the collection. Bülow gained considerable expertise in her previous roles, particularly in the field of preventive conservation. The Head of Collection Management also advises the director on matters such as collection mobility and risks related to the collection.
