OAKLAND, CA.- On Sunday, June 16th, Clars Auction Gallery will host its semi-annual major Asian art and antiques sale that will present an exciting and impressive selection of investment level property from prominent California estates, museums, private institutions and special collections. This sale will be held in conjunction with their monthly Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, and Jewelry.

ASIAN ART & ANTIQUES – THE HIGHLIGHTS
Headlining the June 16th sale will be two paintings attributed to Zhang Daqian (Chinese, 1899-1983). The first is Beauty, an ink and color on paper, the upper right with colophon, bearing his signature and cyclical date ‘yiyou’ and two seal. This scroll measures 86.5” high by 26.5” wide. This work will be offered together with the book The Paintings of Chang Dai-chien, National Museum of History, Taipei, 1979, in which this painting is featured. Beauty will be offered with an estimate of $50,000 – 70,000.

The second work is titled River Landscape, also an ink and color on paper bearing the signatures ‘Zhang Yuan’ followed by two seals, the right with colophon bearing the signature ‘Tang Han’ followed by one seal. This scroll measures 78.75” high by 19.75” wide and will be offered with an estimate of $40,000 – 60,000.

Highly desirable Chinese huanghuali furniture will also take center stage. The top offerings in this selection will be a pair of beautiful horseshoe back armchairs. This pair will be offered with an estimate of $20,000 – 40,000. Also from this collection will be a rail back settee that is estimated to sell for $10,000 – 15,000.

An important collection of Vietnamese works of art and ceramics spanning the 12th through 19th centuries, come to the sale from a prominent private San Diego (CA) collection. Monochromes from the Ly and Tran dynasty and blue-and-whites from the Le dynasty will be offered. A collection of Dongson bronzes is highlighted by a Dongson bronze drum (Heger type 1). This work is centered by a starburst encircled by figural and bird registers and will be offered for $15,000 – 25,000. Coming from this private collection will also be a selection of gilt and lacquered wooden Buddhist sculptures, most from the 19thcentury, including a seated Buddha, bodhisattva, and a pair of cranes standing on turtle bases that carry an estimate of $15,000-25,000.

In Chinese decorative art, the highlight will be set of four Chinese Guangxu period porcelain bowls that are brightly enameled with birds amid flowers and garden rock. This set is estimated at $10,000-15,000. Additional highlights include porcelain plaques featuring chickens and a porcelain plaque enameled with Daoist immortals, bearing the signature ‘Wang Qi’.

FINE ART - HIGHLIGHTS
Headlining this category will be an oil on canvas by Thomas Hill (American, 1829-1908). Untitled (Majestic Falls), carries important provenance coming from the estate of Burch White (Oakland, CA) who was the great, great grandson of Thomas Hill. Estimate: $40,000 – 60,000.

From Russian artist Nikolai Blohkin (b. 1968), his oil on canvas titled Portrait of a Lady with Dog, is estimated at $10,000 – 15,000.

DECORATIVE ART & FURNISHNGS - HIGHLIGHTS
Arts and Crafts will lead this category with a glass table lamp attributed to John Morgan and Sons, New York, in the Pansy pattern. This lamp will be offered with an estimate of $10,000-15,000.

For Modern collectors highlights will include a Mario Bellini for B&B Italia Camaleonda seven piece modular sofa and a Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller 670 and 671 lounge chair and ottoman. In addition, a fine selection of Native American property will be offered including Hopi kachina dolls.

JEWELRY – THE HIGHLIGHTS
The top offering in this category will be an 18k white gold necklace featuring a 14.25 carat diamond that carries an estimate of $8,000 – 12,000.

A 20k gold spike fringe bib collar-necklace featuring a synthetic ruby is estimated to achieve $5,000 – 7,000.
