Clever Tips and Tricks to Make Your Home Look Like the Art Gallery of Your Dreams

Decorating your home so it has the feel of an art gallery can give it the stylish and chic vibe you’ve always wanted. Of course, you don’t have to go all out - if it’s only the style you want you can steal elements here and there to give it the feel you’re going for. However, if it is your thing and you want to go all out art-chic, it doesn’t have to break the bank, or the law - you don’t have to steal the Mona Lisa to make your home look as sophisticated as the Louvre. A lot of modern art is about minimalism.

Start With Your Base
The obvious place to begin is the base coat on your wall, and the colours or textures you’ll choose to frame the room as you please. Remember that walls are central to what your home will actually look like. A great approach when going for the art gallery vibe is opting for plain white walls. Not only does their neutrality give the illusion of a bigger and brighter space, but it also gives you complete freedom when choosing your wall art and doesn’t restrict you for colours or patterns. Another great positive to painting your walls a neutral colour such as white is that it leaves a blank canvas for any future buyers for your home, meaning if you’re selling quickly with a company such as Ready Steady Sell, you’re likely to gain more interest from buyers and ultimately make a sale quicker.

Another great, and slightly different way of following the arty trend is using exposed red brick work within the home. It might sound complex, but you don’t actually need to do much to achieve this - chances are it’s already there beneath the wall if you remove the surface.

This will give a rustic and earthy effect to the room and lends itself very well to arty-boho chic. However if for whatever reason you don’t happen to have red, rustic brick work naturally, or don’t want to pay to dig it up - fear not! There are many wallpapers with this very effect in shops for a good price that will give you the same effect, and are more easily interchangeable.

Fill the Space With Sculptures, Ornaments and Pictures of All Styles
Contrary to what you’ve probably been told, you don’t have to stick to one particular style. Have you ever seen an art gallery that showcases one style and one style only? The answer is no, so to achieve this look, you’ll have to do the same in your home. Ornaments, sculptures and pictures are a great way to give your home the artistic edge. This might sound pricey… but again, it absolutely doesn’t have to be! Dependent on your taste, there are all sorts of places that you can thriftily pick up these pieces for next to nothing. Local markets, car boot sales and even charity shops are Aladdin’s caves full of interesting and quirky decorations that cost a minimal amount. Another great way to pick up unique pieces is looking at markets while you’re abroad. What better way to collect artefacts that come with a background story than buying while you’re abroad? An homage to world culture in the home is very classy.

Pick and Choose Your Lighting
Use effective lighting to emphasise certain areas and items within your home to really make your important artistic pieces stand out. Lighting can easily enhance walls, ornaments, and picture framing and make these the focus of a room. Not only this, but fairy lights and soft yellow bulbs give the room a cosy lounge-like feel, for when you’re hosting an after hours arty-red-wine-soiree.

Experiment with Colour in Your Accessorising
Similarly to choosing an array of items to fill your room, remember to experiment with colour when accessorising the room itself. Whether this be your sofa, rug, cushions or whatever, don’t ever feel restricted. Choose your colour scheme, whether it’s monochromatic black and white or pop art yellows and reds, and make a theme out of it - or don’t choose a scheme at all. Experiment with clashing colours and patterns, and make something truly unique to you
- after all, that’s what art is all about.

Introduce Plants into the Space
Finally, bringing the outside in and introducing plants into an indoor space is a great way to put the cherry on top of a beautiful space - and what’s more artistic than the beauty of nature? They’re lush, they’re vibrant, and they’ll compliment your art wonderfully.
