Before joining the staff at the Cornell, Lobaina worked at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami, Florida as Learning Programs Facilitator with school groups and adult learners.

WINTER PARK, FLA.- The Cornell Fine Arts Museum announced the appointment of Alexia Lobaina as the museum's new Associate Curator of Education. In this position, Lobaina will oversee the creation and implementation of educational programming for both campus and external communities.

Lobaina comes to CFAM with experience in academic museums and in the areas of education and engagement. Before joining the staff at the Cornell, Lobaina worked at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami, Florida as Learning Programs Facilitator with school groups and adult learners. Lobaina is currently earning a PhD in curatorial studies at Florida State University, where she also received an MA in art history and cultural heritage, a BA in art history, and a BS in photography and digital design. In addition to her time at Vizcaya, Lobaina has held positions and internships within the education and curatorial departments of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum in Quincy, Florida, the Pensacola Art Museum in Pensacola, Florida and the Goss Michael Foundation in Dallas, Texas. She also spent several years working professionally in photography, adding depth to her experience as a practitioner and researcher within the arts.

"In our extensive search," noted Bruce A. Beal Director Ena Heller, "Lexie stood out. She combines knowledge and experience with intellectual curiosity, and a passion for teaching with a warm and engaging presence in the gallery."

In her position as Associate Curator of Education, and as part of the museum's curatorial team, Lobaina will give continuity to CFAM's campus engagement and will work closely with Rollins faculty to deliver on its educational mission: "What most spoke to me about CFAM was its dedication to community engagement and human-first practices. That spirit of collaboration is evident in the diversity of its collection and programming. I look forward to contributing to the museum's already impressive educational offerings to further enrich the experience for our students and visitors through new imaginative and interdisciplinary approaches." Lobaina begins on August 3, 2020.
